Bristol is home to the biggest hot air balloon festival in Europe. The festival is free and a short walk from our house. A lot of our London friends joined the weekend for a day of sunshine and socialising.
One of the things we’d always wanted to do was to see the Keukenhof flower park in Lisse, South Holland. Our trip to the Netherlands would not have been complete without a visit to the tulip park. Keukenhof was opened in 1949 by the mayor of Lisse together with local flower bulb producers to promote the flower industry of the region. The park together with the surrounding flower fields is perfect for a day trip with a bicycle.
We were on our way to Vilnius, Lithuania, when we decided we were going to take a hot air balloon ride. A short call and the flight was booked for the next afternoon just before sunset. There is a beautiful village near Vilnius that the hot air balloons fly over daily. The historic castle as well as the autumn colours on the trees made it a perfect opportunity for some beautiful photos from the sky.
One of the places we can easily visit from Bristol is Dublin, Ireland. The airline tickets are really cheap and South African passport holders can visit the country without any visa requirements. We planned a weekend getaway, filled with historical attractions as well as cultural visits to Irish pubs.
Cornwall is one of the most popular places in the south of England to go to when the days are long and the weather is sunny. We decided to travel down and make a few pit stops at a few castles on our way to Tintagel.
